Kodiak High may to get local fish
options
Kodiak daily Mirror, March 5,
2010
KODIAK,
Alaska (AP) -- A group in Kodiak is starting a program to use local seafood in
the school lunch
program.
Healthy Tomorrows Kodiak says the program, "Fish to School," will begin at
Kodiak High. The
group says
it has seed money to start this year and will work with the Alaska Department of
Fish and Game,
local
canneries and processors so fishing families can donate fish to a processor to
package for school use.
Pollock is
the first fish that will be used. Kodiak High may offer a "fish Friday" starting
at the end of March.
Chowder
likely will be the first dish offered, with fish wraps and enchiladas suggested
as other meals. Sushi
is another
possibility.

Exports
Press Release - Gov of Alaska, March 4,
2010
March 4, 2010, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sean Parnell
today announced Alaska exports totaled $3.3 billion
in 2009, the fifth best year for trade in the state’s
history. “Given that Alaskans were competing during a
world-
wide economic downturn last year, this is a great
result,” Governor Parnell said. “We know Alaska is on the
right track: Each quarter in 2009 saw an improvement over
the previous quarter.”
