Russian Fish Company Touts Progress in Building its Fleet of Supertrawlers SeafoodNews.com by John Sackton - May 7, 2019 The Russian Fish Company announced that the first sections of its first supertrawler, called megablocks (blocks of several hull units) are erected on the slipway at Tersan shipyard (Turkey). The major part of the hull units are at the final assembly stage. The vessel will be launched in August this year, commissioning is scheduled for 2020. The super trawler constructed at Tersan is a first of a series of seven vessels, which Russian Fishery Company is going to build in 2020-2023. Construction of six vessels is conducted by Admiralty Shipyards (Russia) under the state investment quota program. “The experience of Tersan shipyard in the construction of fishing vessels of similar parameters ensures high quality and compliance with construction deadlines, - RFC CEO Fedor Kirsanov commented. The other hulls will be built by Admiralty Shipyards, where the hulls of two vessels of the series are being assembled today, and they have successfully adopted this experience”. The keel of the first trawler at Admiralty Shipyards was laid in January this year. As of today, about 20% of its sections have already been mounted on the slipway, more than half of the metal has been processed for its construction. The keel of the second one was laid in April and both trawlers are being built almost in parallel. The launching of these trawlers is scheduled for the first half of 2020, and commissioning is scheduled for 2021. The Russian Fishery Company applied for the construction of four more vessels in the frame of the state investment quota program. The application was approved for participation in the auction. This year they will be promoting a two new Martha Stewart Meals with Pollock, marketed by True North. The Martha Stewart for True North Seafood branded product line will feature four signature offerings, two of which feature Wild Alaska Pollock. Specifically, Wild Alaska Pollock with Southwest Spice Blend; and a Seafood Medley (Wild Alaska Pollock, Atlantic Salmon, and Bay Scallops) with Herb Spice Blend are expected to hit U.S. grocery stores in June 2019. The other two products are Sockeye Salmon with Miso Butter and Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter. “We are excited to work with Martha Stewart to offer consumers an easy and convenient way to prepare delicious tasting seafood at home,” said Jill Cronk, Director of Marketing for True North Seafood. NMFS renewed 21 standard deep-set buoy gear (standard DSBG) EFPs for 2019 and issued a new pelagic longline EFP valid for 24 months from the effective date. Ten linked deep-set buoy gear (linked DSBG) EFPs issued in 2018 remain valid for the 2019 calendar year. The permits are issued as exemptions from specific prohibitions under the Fishery Management Plan for U.S. West Coast Fisheries for Highly Migratory Species (HMS FMP). The general purpose of the EFPs is to allow novel fishing practices and gear types that are not otherwise authorized under a fishery management plan. There are no roads in or out of Cordova, and more than half of its 2,000-plus residents depend on the salmon industry.
