In 2019 the non-profit was able to send 838,852 servings of seafood to Alaska residents in need. SeaShare recently highlighted their distribution efforts in Alaska with a map of locations where they directly distributed to food banks or community groups, as well as locations that received seafood from distribution partners. The non-profit was able to distribute directly to 11 food banks across the state, and reach 26 additional locations thanks to distribution partners. You can find the map here. According to Executive Director Jim Harmon, SeaShare spent over $200,000 in the last five years to establish distribution hubs across Alaska, an investment that he says will "provide a long-term network for shipping, storing and distributing frozen food donations." This year alone they were able to install two new freezers in Alaska so that their partners in Juneau and Kodiak would be able to store more seafood for distribution. Of course, hunger isn't just a problem in Alaska, it's an issue plaguing people across the U.S. According to Feeding America, 37 million Americans struggle with hunger. Fortunately, SeaShare is able to work closely with the organization to distribute their seafood, all thanks to Feeding America's network of over 200 food banks and 32,000 partner agencies across the country. SeaShare reports that in 2019 they were able to send a total of 4,586,546 servings of seafood to food banks, feeding centers and hunger relief partners in 16 states.
