The commercial Dungeness crab fishery in Southeast Alaska will have a full fall season. The summer fishery closed six days early this year because initial crab harvest projections were subpar. That estimate is based on data gathered dockside during the first full week of fishing in June. It fell just below the required 2.25 million-pound threshold, at 2.21 million pounds of crab; fishery managers closed the summer season early to reduce pressure on the stock.

The slower fishing is raising concerns that not all quota will be harvested before the Oct. 31 deadline.

NMFS is prohibiting retention of blackspotted and rougheye rockfish in the Central Aleutian Island and Western Aleutian Island districts (CAI/WAI) of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI). This action is necessary because the 2025 blackspotted and rougheye rockfish total allowable catch (TAC) in the CAI/WAI of the BSAI will soon be or has been reached.
