SeaShare donations are in demand at nations food banks and throughout AK:SeaShare’s seafood partners are working harder than ever to keep markets supplied, shelves filled, and families fed. Despite all the challenges, these same partners — fishermen, processors, distributors, and others — have donated over 7 million seafood servings to food banks across the country so far this year. Our collective response to the unprecedented need has been incredible. Together we are supplying the best protein to families who can really use a good meal.

Please consider donations to SeaShare as you finalize your end-of-year donation plans. Just $1 helps provide 8 servings of seafood to hungry neighbors nationwide. We at PSPA and SeaShare hope you have a safe and happy holiday season!

*********************************** International NFI’s Global Seafood Market Conference Goes Virtual in 2021 Urner Barry by Amanda Buckle - December 14, 2020 The National Fisheries Institute’s Global Seafood Market Conference (GSMC) is going virtual in 2021! NFI announced on Monday that they are not only taking their Global Seafood Market Conference virtual, but that they are also running a year-long GSMC Webinar Series. The Webinar Series is set to begin on January 13 with the popular GSMC Shrimp Panel. A few weeks later the virtual GSMC will run from February 1 through February 5, and will feature two hours of daily Plenary sessions with industry experts on the markets, economics and consumer insights in the age of COVID-19. While a full list of speakers for the virtual GSMC have yet to be released, NFI did confirm that professional football and baseball all-star, Bo Jackson, who transitioned from an athletic career to running a successful culinary company, Jackson & Partners, will be a guest speaker on February 2. Other speakers include Chris Dubois from IRI and Anne-Marie Roerink from 210 Analytics, who will host an in depth data discussion that takes a look at grocery by the numbers. Kelley Fechner from Datassentials will make her annual deep dive into food service with a look at how the landscape has changed for seafood; plus GSMC veterans Christian Lawrence of Rabobank and Tim Quinlan of Wells Fargo will once again offer their insights into finance, liquidity and debt. Duane Lenz from Cattlefax, as well as Urner Barry market reporters Russell Whitman and Russell Barton, will provide a look at the “battle for the center of the plate.” “We will meet in person when it’s safe; but our members rely on GSMC information,” said NFI’s Senior Vice President, Judy Dashiell. “We listened and have created a robust program that spans 2021. We are committed to delivering programming with excellent speakers, seamless technology and respect for people who are attending during their workday.” The Virtual GSMC 2021 and the GSMC Webinar Series are supported by Premiere Sponsor Diversified Communications and Gold Sponsors Baader North America Corporation, Datassential, Foa & Son, IRI, Lineage Logistics, Los Angeles Cold Storage, Rabobank, Urner Barry, Wells Fargo Bank, and Windward Strategies LLC. NOAA Fisheries - December 11, 2020 There are thousands of small islands that comprise Alaska’s Aleutian Island chain, but only a few dozen significant passes among those islands. These passes are important bottlenecks for water exchange among the North Pacific, Gulf of Alaska, and the Bering Sea. However, until now there has been limited detail on estimates of pass location, size, shape, length, and depth. https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/feature-story/size-alaskas-western-aleutian-island-passes-larger-previously-thought Federal Register Fisheries of the Exclusive Economic Zone Off Alaska; Reallocation of Pacific Cod in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area A Rule by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on 12/15/2020 NMFS is reallocating the projected unused amount of Pacific cod from vessels using jig gear and trawl catcher vessels (CVs) to CVs less than 60 feet (18.3 m) length overall (LOA) using hook-and-line or pot gear and American Fisheries Act (AFA) catcher/processors (CPs) in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands (BSAI) management area. This action is necessary to allow the 2020 total allowable catch (TAC) of Pacific cod to be harvested. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2020/12/15/2020-27526/fisheries-of-the-exclusive-economic-zone-off-alaska-reallocation-of-pacific-cod-in-the-bering-sea
