According to processors, pink salmon has risen in price by 30%, and mackerel by 40%. The wholesale price of Pacific herring in the Far East increased by 57.3%, while Atlantic herring in the northwest of the country increased by 76.5%. Mackerel in the Northwest has risen in price by 53.8%.As an official spokesman of the Russian Sea told the Russian Kommersant business paper in an interview, Pacific raw materials have become more expensive on average by 16%. In comparison, Atlantic raw materials have become more expensive by 10%. In the meantime, the price growth is also caused by lower cod catch. According to the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Natsrybresurs, the cod catch in 2024 amounted to 316.300 tons, down 15.5% yearly. The expected reduction next year also leads to a supply shortage in the Northwest. In the meantime, representatives of Russian Rosrybolovstvo believe the current situation in the Russian fish market remains stable. There are enough fish and fish products for both the domestic and export markets. The department attributes the increase in wholesale prices to exchange rate fluctuations. https://www.seafoodnews.com/Story/1294943/Russian-Fish-Prices-Surge-as-Raw-Material-Costs-Soar Environment/Science Gliders: Collecting Data on Ocean Health Autonomous vehicles, like gliders, are giving us critical new insights into what is going on in the deeper parts of the ocean. NOAA Fisheries - January 13, 2025 NOAA Fisheries has been conducting surveys for decades—collecting data on the health of our ocean and fisheries. We want to know when, where, and how many fish are in the ocean; what species; and how old they are. This information helps us manage fisheries sustainably. These surveys are usually conducted on ships and airplanes, which can cover large areas. But they’re constrained by weather, daylight, and even location. https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/video/gliders-collecting-data-ocean-health Labeling and Marketing GAPP: Positive Perception of Alaska Pollock Growing Fishermen's News - January 15, 2025 An influencer campaign on social media and related efforts by the industry have put the Wild Alaska pollock industry on track for an increased return on investment in 2025, according to the 2024-25 annual report by Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP). https://fishermensnews.com/gapp-positive-perception-of-alaska-pollock-growing/ Federal Register North Pacific Fishery Management Council; Public Meetings A Notice by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on 01/15/2025 The North Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) and its advisory committees will meet February 3, 2025 through February 11, 2025. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/01/15/2025-00758/north-pacific-fishery-management-council-public-meetings Notice of Call for Nominations for the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Public Advisory Committee A Notice by the Interior Department on 01/14/2025 The Department of the Interior is soliciting nominations for the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Public Advisory Committee (Committee).
