The management measures analyzed in this EIS would apply exclusively to participants in the Bering Sea pollock ( Gadus chalcogrammus) fishery, managed under the Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area (BSAI FMP), and consistent with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (Magnuson-Stevens Act), National Standards, and other applicable law. The scope of the EIS will be to analyze the impacts to the human environment resulting from alternatives for measures to minimize non-Chinook salmon bycatch. NMFS will accept written comments from the public to identify the issues of concern and assist the Council and NMFS in determining the appropriate range of alternatives for the EIS. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/07/11/2023-14581/notice-of-intent-to-prepare-an-environmental-impact-statement-for-minimizing-non-chinook-salmon FYI’s Alaska Symphony of Seafood contest puts out call for entries for its 30th edition Seafood Source by Chris Chase - July 10, 2023 The Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF) has put out the call for products for the 2024 Alaska Symphony of Seafood. https://www.seafoodsource.com/news/foodservice-retail/alaska-symphony-of-seafood-puts-out-call-for-product-for-its-30th-anniversary-edition Opinion OPINION: Healthy oceans are vital to Alaska Anchorage Daily News by Lisa Murkowski - July 11, 2023 On an early morning walk around Juneau, I saw a bustling waterfront — a harbor full of small fishing boats, a large cruise ship in the distance, locals walking their dogs, and businesses ready to welcome the many tourists visiting Southeast.
