The increasing decline has been observed this year despite good figures of catch and stable domestic reserves, according to recent statements made by senior officials of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture and Rosrybolovstvo. Regarding pollock production, the catch volume in the Sea of Okhotsk region -- a major Russian production base -- amounted to about 840,000 tonnes during the first half of the pollock fishing season this year. That volume accounted for about 87% of the total allowable catch of the fish and was generally comparable with the figures of last year. According to Aleksey Buglak, president of the Russian Association of Pollock Producers, while the volume of pollock catch in Russia remains stable, the figures of its processing are significantly lower than initial state plans. According to Buglak, official statistics show the Russian pollock fillet and minced meat output for the period of January-May fell by 8%, to 39,000 tons (pollock), and by 16%, to 6,600 tons (minced meat), respectively. More importantly, the majority of pollock enterprises in Russia continue to primarily focus on the production of headed and gutted pollock, the volume of which has amounted to 424,000 tonnes since the beginning of the year.
