New research found that the cold, low salinity inshore waters of Icy Strait in Southeast Alaska may have provided a temporary buffer from marine heatwave conditions in the Gulf of Alaska for four species of migrating juvenile salmon. The marine heatwaves occurred in 2014–2016 and 2019. Prior studies have found connections between juvenile Pacific salmon survival and growth rates to oceanographic conditions and food availability in the marine environment. https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/feature-story/new-evidence-temporary-refuge-migrating-juvenile-salmon-marine-heatwave-conditions Labeling and Marketing The Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP) Announced it is Seeking Proposals for Partnership Program Funding Perishable News - The Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP) Seafood May 15, 2025 Through its original research, GAPP has learned that consumers are increasingly aware of the amazing attributes of Wild Alaska Pollock and are actively looking for products made from it. The fishery management measures include fishing areas, seasons, quotas, legal gear, recreational fishing days and catch limits, harvest guidelines, possession and landing restrictions, and minimum lengths for salmon taken in the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) off Washington, Oregon, and California. These measures are intended to prevent overfishing while achieving, on a continuing basis, the optimum yield from the fishery, to provide for the exercise of federally recognized fishing rights by West Coast Indian Tribes, to allow a portion of the salmon runs to escape the ocean fisheries in order to provide for spawning escapement, and to apportion the ocean harvest equitably among non-Indian commercial and recreational fisheries. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/05/16/2025-08741/fisheries-off-west-coast-states-west-coast-salmon-fisheries-2025-specifications-and-management
