Copper River, Alaska salmon fishery kicks off with low prices, slow fishing Seafood Source by Brian Hagenbuch - May 19, 2020 Alaska’s earliest salmon fishery – the famed Copper River run – kicked off last week with slow fishing and lower year-on-year prices. As fishermen scraped through a scant opener, rumors circulated online and in news outlets that Copper River Seafoods was paying out just USD 3.50 (EUR 3.19) for sockeye and USD 6.50 (EUR 5.93) for kings. That would represent a sharp fall from last year’s starting price of USD 10.00 (EUR 9.13) a pound for sockeye and USD 14.00 (EUR 12.78) for kings. https://www.seafoodsource.com/news/supply-trade/copper-river-alaska-salmon-fishery-kicks-off-with-low-prices-slow-fishing Norton Sound fisheries take COVID-19 precautions NSEDC distributes $5.45 M+ to member communities Cordova Times by Margaret Bauman - May 19, 2020 Norton Sound Economic Development Corp is developing a COVID-19 Community & Workforce Protection Plan to help mitigate the spread of the virus in communities in which NSEDC and Norton Sound Seafood Projects operate. https://www.thecordovatimes.com/2020/05/19/norton-sound-fisheries-take-covid-19-precautions/ Fifth nonresident seafood worker tests positive for coronavirus in Alaska Alaska Public Media by Lex Treinen - May 17, 2020 A seafood worker has tested positive for the coronavirus.
