Recreational fishing, K-12 education, and academic science participants who participated in the Town Hall meetings were overwhelmingly in support of continuing the OREHP’s White Seabass program and/or another species (primarily California Halibut) for potential enhancement. Discontinuation of the OREHP was favored by the commercial fishing groups who attended the Town Hall meetings and was suggested by seven to 20 percent of participants in the non-profit, K-12 education and recreational fishing groups, with a preference for using collected funds to apply to other efforts that may benefit fisheries and the ocean. Trident is receiving funding for three new projects, including a publicity campaign to get wild Alaska pollock into “white tablecloth restaurants” in seven major U.S. markets. The other projects include new portions, and protein noodles made from wild Alaska pollock surimi in North American club stores. “The funding from this program enables Trident to stretch its marketing dollars even further, to reach more people, in more places, more often and to help us introduce innovative new products like our all new Protein Noodles made with wild Alaska pollock to consumers,” Trident CEO Joe Bundrant said of the funding. This notice informs the public of the revised referendum voting period due to the lapse in appropriations.
